Barcalounger
America's original recliner, perfected since 1940
0 products
Barcalounger is America's oldest and most iconic recliner brand, with roots stretching back to 1896 when Edward J. Barcalo founded the Barcalo Manufacturing Company in Buffalo, New York. The company originally produced tools and industrial machinery before pivoting to furniture in partnership with Hungarian inventor Anton Lorenz, who designed the first "scientifically-articulated reclining chair."
Production of the Barcalounger recliner began in 1940, and the name quickly became synonymous with reclining comfort in American homes. For decades, a Barcalounger was the gold standard in living room seating — a piece of furniture so culturally significant that the name became a generic term for recliners in popular culture.
After navigating a 2010 bankruptcy, Barcalounger re-emerged in 2011 and continues to produce premium recliners and leather seating from its base in Morristown, Tennessee. Today, the brand is owned by Hancock Park Associates and offers a full line of power recliners, leather sofas, and push-back recliners available at Costco and major furniture retailers.
